Like to thank Net galley giving me an opportunity to read and review this graphic Bond novel.
A different take on James Bond, an action adventure in terms of Bond's body, brain, gut, heart, lungs and final chapter titled burial. Though each story looks unconnected but in the final chapter all the episodes are inter-connected.
Ales Kot (I don't know how to pronounce) is the author and have five illustrators for six plots. I liked the illustrations of Luca Casalanguida. I liked the issue #2 and #4, second issue, Bond interrogating a woman who had plans of killing the innocent people by lethal virus and issue four, without a weapon and badly wounded Bond meets a girl a writer in a solitary place.
A must comic collection for Bond fans.

Fantasy genre is seldom used in Tamil movies and as well as in book. I have read a fantasy based short story but not a novel.
After reading a couple of chapters of Vaseegara Nadu I was awestruck on the characterization and the plot. Even the author has given beautiful Tamil names and they are appropriate to the character, some are, a man with a scared face the author given name is Vadumaran, vadu means scar, Sengkanal, Porimudi, Vanamatti, Kadabujan etc.
Coming to the story there is a planet, a sea divides into two hemispheres, on one side there is a kingdom called Kathiravanadu, Vadumaran the valiant fighter and intelligent Porimudi seeks revenge and kills the king and queen and they take up reign and rename the country as Gora nadu. They expand the empire and comes to know about one country Vaseegara Nadu which is not captured for centuries, they came to know how the adversaries are defeated in the battle field. Vadumaran takes up the journey as planned by Porimudi to get the special power.
Vadumaran has a son Ilathiran, he was trained by Deivasenar. As he progresses in martial arts he befriends Deivasenar’s son Sengkanal. Ilathiran looks after the kingdom on his father’s absence then he appoints his friend Sengkanal in his army. Sengkanal is a handsome, astute and as well trained in various fights which creates envy for Porimudi he feels that Sengkanal might one day will challenge Ilathiran.
A year later Vadumaran returns with special power which he can transmit to everybody, the power can stay for entire life or for a shorter period of time and as per the wish of Vadumaran. With that new power they initiate the war with Vaseegara Nadu.
With new found power did Vadumaran and Porimudi captured Vaseegara Nadu? Who is Sengkanal and what was his background?
The story is fantasy based and author has used extensive scientific details. Half of the story is in the battle field. The author has took up the power of magnetism as the core of the story. The description, naming the type of weapons used in the war, the details of the wall in Vaseegara Nadu, types of fighting techniques, the master plan of Porimudi, the strategies used in the war are well narrated by the author.
In the end the author has wished to explain in detail about the countries, their way of living, dress and habits and which I expect eagerly in the second part. A fantastic Tamil fantasy novel and a page turner.
Kudos Samura Sir you have succeeded again in delivering a super imaginative book.

The war, though we dislike it quite a bit, is sometimes laughable, you must admit – A.P.Herbert Badogliovski.
I like to thank Thistle publishing for sending me a copy of Weird War 2 for reading and review. The book is around 166 pages and can be read in one day but reading a chapter a day is best method to remember most of the known and unknown events presented in the book.
The author Richard Denham in the start has provided a concise summary of pre war and World War 2 events which will familiarize the reader.
As I said earlier there are many events which will escape from our memory. Below are some that I can recall.
The author mentions about the superweapons used by Nazi’s V1 (cruise missile) and V2 (worlds first long range guided ballistic missile)

A little about Operation Mincemeat the most successful deception of the war which saved thousands of Allied soldiers lives.
Major William Martin (false name of the corpse used in Operation Mincemeat) The image is from the Bloomsbury edition of Ben Macintyre “Operation Mincemeat”.
The Weird War 2 book does not have only the gory and humorous side of war but also a heart touching story, chapter on Bride of Belsen, a British soldier during the end of the war entered the concentration camp in Bergen Belsen and he came across a skeletal woman named Gena, he told to himself that this is the girl he is going to marry. Later that soldier married her and they lived happily with three children. Gena is known as the Bride of Belsen.
A soldier who had the opportunity to kill Hitler in World War I and he did not pull the trigger as he felt pity on seeing the condition of injured Hitler. Later he regretted.
The humorous side of the book, Russians plan of using dogs to destroy the German tanks. The dogs fitted with explosives were sent to blow up, instead most of the dogs returned to the owner thereby killing the soldiers. An US invention of Bat bombs which did not go well according to the plan. Ghost armies, creating an illusion of assembling of armies with mock tanks and other arsenals to deceive Germany.
A weird fact that Tsutomu Yamaguchi is the only person acknowledged by the Japanese government to have survived the nightmare of the atomic blasts of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And a Japanese soldier who did not know that the war has ended still fought the US for a decade and surrendered.
Another unknown event is after Germany surrender, the allies and the Germans fought together to capture one castle.
A good book for world war II buffs, to gain more info it is advisable to re-read the book.

Caution this novel is not for light hearted.
David John Slaughter is a lonely person, has lost his wife and two lovely children. Secludes himself from the world and takes up collection of fire arms. One of Big Chuck gang sells antique fire arms to DJ and next time they try to grab his money. A big mistake by Big Chuck who had chosen to cheat DJ.
They try to take over DJ’s money and other fire arms hidden in his home. Injured DJ escapes and he has to save his collection, it is an arduous task as around 20 to 25 trained persons are waiting for his arrival. He kills everybody with surgical precision.
That’s not the end, as Big Chuck wants to prove who is he, from informers from FBI Big Chuck tracks DJ and tries to kill him again but DJ becomes alert and joins hand with another untainted FBI agent.
Big Chuck makes a master stroke of kidnapping their loved ones. Did DJ saved them? What happened to Big Chuck and his empire?
Absolutely page turner novel an action adventure, we will surely like DJ and his special skills. Use and terms of weapons given in the book tells us the knowledge possessed by the author James Beltz.
Towards half of the novel the author introduces one character which does not fit in the story but in the end that character is the real twist to the novel. The climax is cliffhanger.
A must buy book for action adventure fans.

I have read the Tamil novel Semmaari a year back, I was awestruck by the plots and characters used by the author and I suggested to him to translate the book to English. The author willingly did.
A Tamil proverb “Vilayattu Vinaiyagum” is the crux of the story. An uneducated nomad Semmaari, shepherd by profession is pitted against three antagonist a ruthless person named Kodari, the King of Chandira Kingdom and as well as the Commander of his enemy country Suriya Kingdom. Semmaari had to face them because of an ancient game of the Tamils Tigers and Lambs.
Each character taking up Semmaari’s side are in someway hurt by the above mentioned three adversaries. The revenge is accomplished by them using the five natural elements. It is joy to re read the last few chapters to assimilate the techniques and strategies used by the author.
There are many poetic passages, I like to quote one: “Fishes tears cannot be seen. Semmaari couldn’t see the tears forming in those fish-like eyes either. He just stood there, adoring her.”
Kudos Samura sir for giving us a fantastic novel based on an ancient Tamil game.

Thanks to Net galley for giving me an opportunity to read and review the graphic novel 1066. The story is about conquest of England by William the Conqueror.
The graphic novel is based on the 11th century Bayeux Tapestry made of linen cloth measuring 68.38 meters and 55 cm in height. The story is told in 58 scenes and it is considered to be worlds first comic strip.
It is an adventure story of William, the novel also exhibits his shrewdness and leadership qualities. In between they have provided the images from the Bayeux tapestry which makes the book more enjoyable.
The copy I have received have some unfinished panels and pencil marks abound. Some panels I have given below. Since it is free copy the publisher had sent a low resolution unfinished panel work for review. I am sure the final product will be fantastic, as the unfinished panels looks good.
You can find pencil marks that have not been erased

Nostradamus hides his prophecy book “Century” in Sahara which contains the remaining 58 quatrains of Century VII. The book also prophecies about the end of human race and it may continue through the effort of one girl who will be a decadent of Nostradamus companion.
That girl is Dr.Zara Delacroix, but she did not believe in Nostradamus writings. Later when she finds the hidden book she start to believe in his prophecies. To stop her progress a group of rebels try to kill and take the book. Zara escapes from them and meets Sam Reilly. Now the story shifts to 4th gear. On one side Zara been chased by the thugs of General Ngige and another she has doubts about Sam and his appearance in the middle of the desert. To fill up their water bottle, they happen to use the fossil water from foggara (ancient under water tunnel dug up by Garamantes) but they cannot come up from the well as the thugs were above looking for them. They stay in the under water tunnel for days and they attempt to find another route for escape, this part of the story was very thrilling as Sam, Tom and Zara try their level best to come out of the tunnel.
Same time Sam’s team understands that he had been gone missing and they begin to search for him. Did Sam, Tom Bower and Zara escape from the tunnel? What was the prophecy of Nostradamus and what is Nostradamus equation? Did General Ngige become the Dictator of all of Africa? What mineral was General Ngige was mining below Lake Tumba? all these are answered in the last few pages of the novel. The climax is cliff hanger.
The novel is fast paced a page turner, I have already read The Last Airship of Christopher Cartwright and I have also reviewed that a couple of months back. I find a slight resemblance of Clive Cussler adventure in Christopher Cartwright novels. I like to thank the author Christopher for giving a thrilling adventure story.

Yet another fast paced thriller from the Grand master of Adventure Clive Cussler. This is my first reading of NUMA Files. I am a fan of Dirk Pitt, when my hero is also in the story my joy doubled.
From the blurb:
A Japanese cargo ship cruises the eastern Atlantic near the Azores - when it bursts into flames. A gang of pirates speeds to take advantage of the disaster – but their boat explodes. What on earth is happening? What does it have to do with the kidnapping of a top scientist from the streets of Geneva. With the defection sixty years ago of a mysterious Russian? With the discovery of an extraordinary underwater graveyard of ships and planes littered across the sea floor? As Austin and Zavala and the rest of team rush to investigate, they find themselves drawn into the extraordinary ambitions of an African dictator, the creation of a weapon of almost mythical power, and an unimaginably audacious plan to extort the world's major nations. The penalty for refusal? The destruction of the world's greatest cities. Starting with Washington, DC . . . Filled with the high-stakes suspense and boundless invention that are unique to Cussler, Devils Gate is one of the most thrilling novels yet from the grand master of adventure.
The novel has superb plots with awesome characters like Paul, Gamay, Katarina Luskaya, Andras, Alexander Cochrane and Djemma Garand. With lot of action from Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala, I like to write about Kurt’s action scenes, first thing comes to my mind is Joe and Kurt trying their best to escape from their adversaries in the submersible Barracuda, Kurt using an old oxygen tank to save Joe, rescuing Kristi Nordegrun from the sinking Kinjara Maru and finally Kurt Austin using the “Single Occupant Tactical Insertion Unit” or a one man glider which can transport its occupant a one way trip across 140 miles and doing it without a sound or heat trail or radar signature, landing on the mysterious tanker called Onyx. The tanker which has the capacity to relay the death rays to Washington DC. “One man on a tanker in the middle of the Atlantic now held the fate of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, in his (Kurt Austin) hands. A sentence giving hope that he will take care of Andras and save the country. A fitting climax to the story. Clive’s co author Graham Brown had excellently handled the plots.
I also like to quote the character of Kurt “and to Kurt Austin the sea had always meant freedom; freedom to roam and explore the world, freedom from traffic and smog and the sometimes claustrophobic existence of modern urban life”.
After Dirk Pitt adventures I started to like Kurt Austin and yes I have collected some of Numa files.

Husband and wife treasure hunting team Sam and Remi Fargo is a series written by my favourite author Clive Cussler along with other authors Grant Blackwood, Thomas Perry, Russell Blake and Robin Burcell.
This is a second novel of Cussler with Robin Burcell.
The happenings in 1918 and 1947 lays the foundation for this novel “The Romanov Ransom”. Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna pays a big ransom to Bolsheviks to release the royal family. But they were killed and later the ransom gets into the hands of the Nazis during World War II. As Germany is facing the defeat, they plan to move the ransom to a secret place, so that it can be used to establish the 4th Reich.
In the present day two boys Brand and Karl Hoffler are doing a documentary on the escape routes used by Nazis after their loss in WWII. Getting a solid lead on their project they are gone missing. Hoffler is the cousin to Selma who is the research assistant of Fargos. Sam and Remi gets in touch with Zakaria Koury the boys guide. Through him, Sam and Remi not only save the two boys but also get to know about a crashed plane and the log book.
And that log book throws some light on the ransom which they don't know. The bad guys enters the play, Rolfe Wernher, is a German businessman and Leopold Gaudecker the head of Wolf Guard. The story now shifts to top gear as Sam and his team claims the hints ahead of baddies. On their journey many characters show up some who appear as a friend becomes foe and some who appear as foe becomes friend.
Sam and Remi make it more enjoyable when they are in dare situations using their wits to outsmart the henchmen.
Staying inside a plane during an avalanche, escaping from Wolf Guard in the tunnel and jungle trip with Nando, the guide are worth mentioning thrilling episodes found in the novel.
The story hops over many countries like Morocco, Russia, Poland, Germany and finally Argentina.
My impression is that Clive should have written couple of chapters and ideas, his co-author Robin Burcell has handled the story very well. The book is unputdownable.

Review: Crossing the Dead-Line: The Guns of Bass Reeves: A Historical Western Novel About Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Beautifully written true story with tinge of fiction on the life of Bass Reeves. He is the first black US deputy marshal, he had the credit of arresting more than 2000 criminals in the wild west.
I came to know about this book through Facebook page on Men's adventure. The story is fast paced the author has written like a TV serial. Many of the chapters are gripping and soul stirring.

A simple book about couple of Siddhars, as I came to know about Siddhars from Mi.Pa.Somu's two bound volume "Siddhar Elakiyem".
Bit disappointed the author has not touched or gone into much details. In the end the author promises that he will write about them in his future book. Waiting eagerly.

A short book about the life of Charlie Chaplin from Hourly history. Who will forgot his tramp character and the movies like Modern Times, The Kid, City Lights and Great Dictator.
His characters were cast out from his childhood miseries. The short mustache Chaplin used has a back story that he looked young and he was made to put mustache to make him look older. All Chaplin needed for a comedy movie is a park, a policeman and pretty girl. The author has covered the failed marriages of Charlie too.
It is a revealtion for me that Edgar Hoover gave that much torture for his career to end and relocate from US.
The book has enough information for a beginner. Highly recommended to Chaplin fans.

Thanks to Net galley for the copy.
Lee Hunter and his friend Charlie Finch goes to a derelict boathouse and an accident occurs, Lee nearly drowns and he finds inside the body of a teenager Paul in another time, who gets tragically killed by a demon incarnate Daryl.
Lee returns back to his body and his time, now with help of his dearest friend who has brain of a chicken and the heart of a lion Charlie plans to take over the despicable man.
Did they succeeded? Or did they succumbed to that same person again? all are revealed in the thrilling last chapters of “The Key to Death’s door”.
I have already read the books written by Mark Tilbury and I know how dark and gory with a little bit of humour he writes. In this novel Mark had scored again I am bit disappointed on missing his dark humour. Apart from this the novel is as good as his other stories.
The friendship between Charlie and Lee, how they both sacrifice for each other well being is super awesome. Another friendship mentioned is Paul Collins and Bobby Knox it is also great story with a tinge of sadness as they both die in the hands of Daryl.
And now the villain the most hated and one we wish to see him dead is Daryl. An important character who links the two stories, two childhoods ruined by the same man and two families torn apart by his evil action. His style of tormenting, provoking and punishing are exceptional, sometimes we wish to tear him apart, hit him with his baseball bat so he tastes his own blood. The feeling towards Daryl we have is intense dislike, the credit goes to the author Mark, Daryl the villain is on par with Edward Ebb and John Carver.
A superb thriller from Mark Tilbury. Thanks Mark for another great read.

I am a fan of Clive Cussler and I am crazy of Dirk Pitt adventures. First time I am reading a story entirely different from what Clive has written all these years. From a Facebook group this book The Chase was selected for reading in the month of February 2018, but I was busy with my work schedule and I finished this book couple of days back.
What to say I was awestruck by Clive's writing skill, he can also write detective/mystery stories. I started to like Isaac Bell, second to Dirk Pitt. Bell is the fastest gun in the west and he has given a job by Von Dorn Detective agency to arrest the evil personified Butcher Bandit. The real face of the bandit is a twist to the story.
Clive is very clever is using the original backdrop to his stories in this novel he had included the great San Francisco earthquake that struck on April 18th 1906. He made us feel we were transported back to the streets of San Francisco on that fateful day.
The car chase and train chase scenes unfolded nicely with vivid description as though I was watching a movie. It would be great if Hollywood produce The Chase.
Clive Cussler again proved that he is the Grand Master of action adventure.

I like to thank Net galley for giving me an opportunity to read and review this awesome action thriller graphic novel.
For me this is not just a graphic novel, as a fan of Bond, the story unfolds like a movie. The art is fantastic and top notch.
Expecting many more of this kind of stuff from the author Andy Diggle and the artist Luca Casalanguida.
Some of the panels I like to share most of them are action and one a serene mountain looks photo realistic.
Bond escaping from his adversaries and car chase.

Muhammad Ali is one of my favourite sports person. My father used to say about Ali’s boxing talent to me. Muhammad Ali paid a visit to India in January 1980, and he stayed in Chennai and did an exhibition bout in old Nehru Stadium arranged by Tamil Nadu Amateur Boxing Association and a private sponsor Apeejay group. He did a fight with former heavy weight champion Jimmy Ellis. The function was presided by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MGR, who is a sport enthusiast. Below are two images from the exhibition bout.
Image in the left the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and darling of the masses MGR (fur cap and black glasses) holding hands with King of Boxing Muhammad Ali and Jimmy Ellis. To the right MGR congratulating Ali after the fight. An info both MGR and Muhammad Ali share the same birthday. Below image of MGR who acted as a boxer in Kavalkaran (1967). Images and post is from my another blog srimgr.com
I liked the book so much and I strongly recommend every Muhammad Ali fans should have. And I came to know that Ali also wrote some poem. The book has beautiful photos of Ali in the ring and some with his family & friends.
The book is full of quotes of Ali. The writer has given brief description for each quote when it was said and for whom. Most of his quotes are hilarious some are thought provoking. My most liked quotes of Ali is given below.
1. If you even dream of beating me you'd better wake up and apologize.
2. I understand you have a queen of England but you don't have a king.
3. I ain't Superman. If the fans think I can do everything I say I can do then they're crazier than I am.
4. The man who will whup me will be fast strong, and hasn't been born yet.
5. I hated every minute of training. But I said, Don't Quit. Suffer now, and live the rest of your life as a champion.
6. I've seen George Foreman shadow boxing and the shadow won.
Poem (March 1963)
Marcellus vanquished Carthage
Cassius laid Julius Caesar low.
And Clay will flatten Dough Jones
With a mighty, muscled blow.
And my most favourite one is the 7th quote.
7. Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.
